Description

We had our first major winter storm come thru the last couple of days. It generated monster surf and today I went out to try and get some fotos. Well, they WERE monsters, and they kept me FAR away. The kind, calm, gentle beach where I took fotos a couple of months ago was insane. You didn't dare even get on the beach, there was mud, sand and rocks on the road 100's of yards away from the normal tide line. I drove up the road a ways and was stunned by what I saw. Waves 20-25' high, one after another, and there was no way I could get a shot, because it was also so foggy you really couldn't discern the sea from the sky. So I left, and went out to the delta of the Eel River, where it starts to empty into the ocean. That's where I took this shot, and that's exactly the way it was. 2 days ago, you could almost walk across this river; today even in a boat, the current could take you away. I'm still awed by what I saw, and HEARD, raw power and beauty at its finest!!

We've had a little water here, as well! That's just amazing, isn't it? I wish you'd been able to get pics of the surf. I bet that was just a blowaway.

I did get a couple, but they were from a bluff at least 100' above the ocean. And it was really foggy, so everything was kind of blurred, you couldn't tell where the sky ended and the ocean began.

I can understand when the ocean becomes wild and to much of a sea mist is in the air. Glad you stayed safe. Excellent capture here. Aloha

Scary story and makes you wonder about the severe weather conditions experienced around the world in recent times??? This is an excellent image and love the way you captured the sunlight as it dances across the water - hugs Jane xx

I see the same water action here with our rivers. One day you can walk in water only a foot deep from one side of the river to the other. The next you are watching tree trunks and root balls bigger than your garage tumble by in the swift but flat current.

This is a fantastic image...I love the mood of it, the haze adds so much to it, and the light quality is excellent. Fantastic shot all around, and a gorgeous image! It's good to see after 2 days without internet. Czech modems are built to last, but alas, the one I was using was forced to give up the ghost.) Anyway, this is an utterly gorgeous image. Beautiful and stark all at once!
