Description

After I took the picture into the sun through the fog (my last upload) I took this picture of Hohenschwangau. I had planned to take a picture of Hohenschwanstein, the fairy tale looking castle, but since it had disappeared in the fog I figured I better take a picture of this castle before it disappeared too. Hohenschwangau was built by King Maximilian of Bavaria between 1833 and 1837 on the site of the remains of the 12th century fortress Schwanstein. King Ludwig II spent his chilhood here. The two castles are located about 1/2 mile apart and are near Fuessen in Bavaria. This picture was taken in January 2006. Thank you for the kind comments to my last upload.

What a fantastic Castle, the POV is superb. I love the weather conditions - snow and fog combined. Fascinating picture with invaluable historic background information. Did you manage to get a shot of Hohenschwanstein eventually Sig?

I have visited that place in summer. The castle looks more impressive and beautiful in the foggy winter day.

I've never seen Hohenschwangau nor Neuschwanstein covered with snow, except in some photos, and this wonderful capture sort of urges me to make the most of the snowy winter season we're having in the east of France, Germany and Switzerland, to go and see those two wonders by myself...for the fourth time! Excellent photograph, Sig!
