Description

[best viewed full size] This shot was taken in the last weekend of October at Bridestones Edge, near Hebdenbrige, West Yorkshire whilst out with Chrissy, aka BibbyBear. The picture is actually composed of two photos, and so is technically a photo manipulation - however I believe it is best suited to the landscape section as it has not been that drastically altered. The sunset was not falling behind The Bridestone as I wanted it to, and there were other smaller boulders blocking the view, so I took the backdrop with the stone behind me and then placed The Bridestone over it and corrected the lighting as I remembered it at the time. Your views on this are most welcome! The Bridestone was worshipped as a representation of the deity Brig, also known as Brid and Brigit by the Brigantes, a pagan neolithic people of ancient Britain. She was the "bridge" between this life and the next, and a lot of towns and cities across the UK take their names from her, for example Brighton, Brighouse and Bridlington. Climbing on The Bridestone is banned due to her unstable structure, in fact it is said that she sways in strong winds and the popular consensus is that she could make a very heavy gravestone to an unwitting climber! For now she stands as she has for thousands of years, but one day The Lady will fall. Thanks for looking and any comments and critique are more than welcome!

Well, not much for me to say on this one babe - I think both photos that you have used were beautiful and you have done a seemless job in merging them together!! I remember this day well.... the bitterly cold wind, the glorious sunset and those many boulders that we climbed on for the best possible view of the wonderous landscape - tears rolling down my cheeks - from the wind perhaps?? Magnificent colours and superb textures in the clouds. Excellent photography, excellent postwork. Hugs babe xox

I too thought this was one photo, so your postwork is seamless indeed! I really like this, especially the dramatic shape and prominent silhouette of the boulder against that absolutely gorgeous evening sky!

I can't remember how many years it is since I was up there Carl, must be at least 40, she looks to have got a bit deeper dip on top and a bit narrower at the bottom since then. Excellent capture, postwork and presentation, the sky is beautiful, but then it's Gods own Country up there. Bravo!!!!!
