Description
A dear friend of mine Lior is going through some rough times right now with the loss of his Mother and I wanted to do something to show my support during this bad time. Lior my friend you have always been so kind to me, and always had such nice things to say all of the time. I marvel at your art and hope one day I can be even half as good as you are my friend. If you have not seen Lior's work please check it out and go to his home page also for a real treat. I tried to think of the happiest moment of my life and tried my best to capture that moment to share with you my friend.
Saturday Morning By The Fire: Without any doubt my favorite memory of all time is of when my sister Veronica & I would spend each weekend at our grandparents home on the farm. Every Saturday we would struggle out of bed and make our way into the living room to huddle up by a old burner style stove at 6:00 so we could watch cartoons. Back then there were only 4 channels on t.v. and they would only show cartoons on Saturday mornings from 6:00 - 11:00 so we really were so excited at this magical treat. Grandma would let our dog Frisky into the house and Veronica and I would huddle up against each other, struggling to stay awake watching such cartoon classics as ( Johnny Quest, Underdog & Rocky & Bullwinkle ) I know this is a simple image, but I tried to capture that moment in time and this is what came out. My focus was on the old stove which every time it came on gave us a warm and happy feeling. Hope this memory can bring a smile to you Lior, it is the least I can do for all you have done for me my friend.
Dave

Old Smokey Stove was a oven I had believe it
or not and I converted it for my needs. I'll
try to find out who made it originally.

Ah yes, I remember my sister and I waiting for WGR TV2 in Buffalo NY to come on the air on Saturday mornings. WGR (now WGRZ) had a unique test pattern which featured a large rooster on the left of the screen. The rooster would 'move' over time as the station technicians would test their studio cameras each pointing at slightly different versions of the pattern. Canadian stations did not go on air until about 7am in those days. I love the little dog keeping vigil on the couch. Always suspicious of the random images on the screen.

Fantastic scene as always and wonderful dedication. When I was growing up, my cousins lived on a far in a very isolated rural area in Michiga. They had cows, chickens, and a horse. There was no indoor plumbin at all and they still had an outhouse. They raised dairy cows and sold their crops, milk and eggs. They had a big wood-burning cookstove in the kitchen. I loved going there, except for the outhouse, LOL! I always wanted to live on a small farm where I could keep my horse and other animals, but alas, it will not happen.

Dear Dave art is not just a stylistic exercise to display just skills like in a race,it's the beauty in giving emotions to the viewers...any kind of emotions and you're a master in this, not only your images are wonderful to see and with amazing characters and expressions, the situations you picture make the difference and most of all your beautiful heart, this is a wonderful gift to Lior,i join you in wishing her all the best in her life and in this difficult moment :-)

Wonderful scene Dave. I love the poses of the children. Only think I like less is the dog. IMO it is much too small. That kind of dog is supposed to be a medium-built dog and it looks more like a figurine of a dog than a real dog. No big deal though because the focus is on the children and they look GREAT!

Very well done Dave...I remember those stoves well...at my Grandma's house when I was a child, she cooked on an old wood stove and we had a wood stove in the living room that kept the whole house warm and I remember most the smell of the wood burning and the crackling sounds that came from it...at first there was no indoor plumbing in the house...on the back porch which was very long there was a wooden table with cool well water in a bowl with a long dipper for dipping the water out to drink...at night we children as well as the adults would sit on the front porch in rockers and talk....the crickets chirping all around us...oh how I miss those days of my youth...thank you for bringing back a sweet memory....I hadn't heard about lior's Mom, I was so sorry to hear as I lost both my parents sometime back...my heart goes out to him.

I grew up in an old house with a space heater like that and I also remember watching the same cartoons when I was a kid. So your trip down memeory lane holds some very fond memories for me too - only I had to share the stove and cartoons with five other brothers & sisters!
