Description

From my last post, Lady Carrie and Myron calls me to look at these two twin pit craters. Pit Crater are craters formed by sinking in of the surface, not primarily a vent for lava. One of the craters were partially filled with cinder and sand. The other was very deep. Lady Carrie threw a rock into the pit and it took about 8 to 10 seconds before it hit bottom. We were not going to step over the edge to take a look down as there were many red flags signaling us not to. Dennis (Cosine) was right when he said "I'll bet they found something green" [ "click here" ]. There was more green vegetation in these pit craters than on the surface within a 3 mile radius from here. Aloha and thank you for viewing

Once again, I am glad you played it safe. You know how that lava can buckle under your feet. Great shot. See you at lunch today. Aloha

Terrific POV and textures in this unique shot, Shark! Again, this reminds me photos sent back from Mars by our two rovers.

I knew it! With apologies for linking to my own gallery, seeing this in the middle of apparently barren lava was a good clue. I love this photo, Errol. This thing must be huge, to have trees growing out of its sides, and for them to look so small. This looks like a very good argument for staying on the path.

Looks like a pretty dangerous hole here....wish I could see the bottom. But it's probably best to heed the warning signs...don't want to have to read about you in the local paper. Those trees really give scale to the size of this crater....Nice shooting here~ Aloha~

What a beautiful natural scene of the environment at its best. Very informative little bit of information you have given, to explain the beauty of this photograph. So very peaceful and beautiful. I've never seen this... and the layers of the rock is absolutely phenomenal to look at..... so many beautiful colours, and rich textures! Have a safe and Happy New Year!
