Description

During a tour in Thailand, my wife Marie-Thérèse (mtc at Renderosity) and me visited an orchid farm. We took a number of closeups of these enchanting flowers, some of which either Marie-Thérèse or me will post later. But the farm itself was wonderful. Strangely, one year afterwards, I remembered a nice picture of a gardener working in this farm. But in fact I had two separate photographs: one beautiful of the environment without anybody, and another of a gardener working in the same river, with an ugly fountain and many electric wires in the sky. The latter one was usable, but it needed an extensive and difficult postwork to make a good Renderosity upload. In fact, I had shot the two picts 15 minutes one from each other. Thanks to the magic of Photoshop with its Layer Masks (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal all), I pasted easily the gardener of the second pict in the scene of the first one, thus creating the image that I beleived that I had photographed, but which in fact did not exist! For sure this gardener is working hard, nevertheless he lives in a paradisiac environment.

Please my friends let you notice that: you do keep a hidden paradise in your head, and this is especially important to remember when you are experiencing painful times. So never forget this picture and imagine yourself that you are this gardener. Just as the famous custom-house officier Henri Rousseau, one century ago, painted marvelous tropical scenes whereas he was doing daily a job which served him only to earn money in a cold and rainy country. In my two or three future posts, I will return to Senegal with new car photos, then I will probably show you other 2D and 3D drawings. Because, after all, I am much more an illustrator than a photographer!

I dedicate this pict to my friend Janiss, a prominent French photographer with a very personal, creative and fascinating style, and I invite everybody to visit her gallery.

Techdata: Nikon D70 with Nikkor 3.5-4.5/18-70 Pro ED at 20mm, 1/80s at f/13, aperture-priority automatic, auto-white balance, ISO 200. Composition made in Photoshop CS3 Extended. The same operation is possible in older Photoshop versions, at least since the 6. In all the versions of Photoshop Elements since the 1.0 this can be done too, but it is a bit more tricky: you have to create a special Layer for the Mask under the Layer that you want to mask, paint in Black in this Layer the image elements of the above-situated image Layer that you want to keep visible, select this image Layer, and make Layer > Group with previous.

A really brilliant postwork. It is not to see, that the gardener is moved into this picture from another. Wonderful work and beautiful it is.

I like how the eye scans the image in this picture. Viewing it from top to bottom actually tells a story. Very good. As for a hidden paradise, I imagine the desert. Since I live in the desert, I only need look outside. For me I live in my paradise. Everyone should find their paradise and move there.

Je ferai abstraction de la dédicace à ma grande copine. C'est vrai que ton image respire un peu plus que les miennes... mais je continue d'apprécier ton regard attentif sur mes oeuvrettes! Hasta la vista!

That's a wonderful shot. It has nice depth to it and the inclusion of the gardener really makes it. Excellent job on the postwork there! You are right though, that fountain is ugly. :) Speaking as a gardener myself that looks like it would be a very interesting place to visit, we grow orchids at work but only a very small scale.

Voilà une bien belle image qui nous montre l'étonnante luxuriance de ce pays d'Orient, et dont l'abondance de l'eau est un plaisir pour la vue et l'occasion de calme pour notre esprit, lorsqu'il est "fatigué"
