Description

Some days ago I posted this portrait: thumb_1597485.jpg "Shepherd of Dragons" is the scene for which I originally created this character. I wanted to make a dragon shepherd but I didnt want anyone magical. I wanted "brute force" but I also wanted someone that could be real. I thought the contrast between mythical creatures and a real person could work well. With the orderly formation of the dragons I wanted to express the total control the shepherd has over his creatures. I used the same clouds that I created for the last image in my series "Road to Tertius". I made the mountains manually with geocontrol, no presets. Dragons are from Daz, outfit is from PW, character is a heavily morphed M3. Thanks for your kind comments in previous images and thanks for watching!

Yes, the first thing that stands out of this image is its spectacularity both from the visual and aesthetic point of view. There is dexterity in the use of all the expressive resources: light, composition, textures. And, also, there is certain halo of spirituality and humanity in the character's attitude. It is an excellent portrait on the communion among elements of the nature.

Nice Lighting, Pose and Wardrobe are very well structured in this scene!! Personally I would have liked to see at least one of the dragons close by the Shepherd. It would give a good sense of scale for all the Dragons, IMHO!!!

There are Shepherds, then there are ones who only tend to the flock, both wear the same cloak yet only one mastered their gift.

great realism, and dynamic composition. i love your light. and i strongly agree with ArtPearl about the poses and light on your dragons (wyverns, to be more accurate, right?). all around, your usual excellent work, which communicates your ideas well. on a personal level, i don't think i like this guy now. also, a shepherd doesn't train, and has to watch his flock. so to my eyes, he's more like an evil master, controlling through some subtle and unseen manner that which should never be controlled by man. as much as i get the brute force, since they're not anywhere near him, it looks more to me like he has some sort of magic and the implication of brute force is just because he's cruel. and the unnatural order to their formation shows how far he'll go to force creatures to his will for no other reason but liking domination of free spirits. so i think it's a great image that evokes a strong negative reaction to the story being told. that's probably not your intent, but i think it's a mark of great success that you can tell a moving story. also, as much as i think the character is sort of villain, there's lots that points to him having positive qualities, which in my mind gives him an interesting balance and sets him up to be the perfect villain: one who thinks he's right and just. it will be interesting to see where you go from here.
