Description
Yesterday was a cold, drizzly, rainy, dreary day. It was too dark for any good shots, so I did not pay that much attention to the bird feeders. Then I happened to look out once and gasped to see that it seemed to be raining goldfinches outside! It was like Grand Central Station out there! (American joke for crowded as a busy train station). I ran and got the camera, and hurriedly got off a few snapshots of the most crowded period where they were fluttering around and bustling and fussing for the best feeding position before half of them dispersed into the trees. What this image doesn't show is that the lower feeder hanger has another hook below the one you see, which has a bag of black niger seed hanging from it, and there were three more feeding there and a couple in the bush right next to it! When I posted my first goldfinch a few days ago, I said I had never seen a goldfinch in Texas before, and when what to my wondering eyes should appear ... well over a dozen of them, ...well, I had to get a snapshot of them, even if this is not nearly as sharp as I would have liked because of the awful low light and drizzle. This is the same hanging feeder that I motion blurred out in yesterday's rosy house finch image because of its distracting background. Didn't expect to be showing it today, lol. A dozen sparrows or doves is no big deal, but seeing this many of a new bird species was, at least for me. Hopefully I can get a clearer shot on a cold but sunny day. Thank you very much for your views and kind comments!

Good lawd, I've heard of raining frogs, but never Goldfinches! Very sharp clarity, textures and vivid colors in this fine composition, Maria! Incidentally, these Goldfinches look very much like parakeets.

We get so many birds here in the spring and summer.. lots of blue jays and cardinals.. which are beautiful, but they never stop to pose for me. Cool bird feeder with the leaves on it!

Congratulations on seeing some many. They are very pretty birds. This shot is more like the kind I get with them. They don't let me get too close.

Excellent, Maria, I'm glad you're keeping them happy. I've counted over twenty at my feeders, although an accurate count is impossible since they won't sit still. They do love Niger seed; I buy it in 50 pound bags LOL.

Excellent shot, and that is so exciting that so many posed for you! These are beautiful birds. I believe I have seen them before, but cannot remember where. I take a Roger Tory Peterson book with me on trips, and annotate the birds that I do sight, and where, but cannot locate it right now - or I'd tell you where I sighted them. ;o)
