Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

my Grandmother used to sew on an old treadle Singer sewing machine up until she had her stroke, the things she made from that old thing were marvellous, from stuffed toys to clothes and any mending we all had. She even repaired my 35 yr old teddy who had lost his eyes and fur from loving him too much...nice memories

WOW...you just put these out there, and they're all so rich and vibrant, and as of this one, wonderfully poignant! I'm glad I read this and saw the image with it. I'm hooked on this series and I'm hoping it goes on. I also have similar memories of my grandmother, though I don't have her sewing machine. I DO have a small wooden box of hers. I keep tarot cards in it, but I remember playing with Star Wars action figures as a kid and using it as a kind of sarcophagus for one of the dead action figures. Funny how you remember things like that, but your image and text triggered that. As always, fantastic work!

I especially like this. Probably because there was a time when sewing clothes for the family was more popular than buying off the rack. Fantastic.

It isn't one of my favorite things, either. I've got my mom's Singer Golden Touch-n-Sew (c. 1967-ish). I swear by it. You know how we all go on about the rhythm of what you write? I can hear the sound of the machine in this one. Long runs, with little short bursts at the end of the seam, the reverse, another long seam . . . Awesome stuff.

1962, I was fourteen years old, my mother bought a brand new all singing and dancing machine, you could flick a switch and the foot dissapeared so that you could do embroidery. I can't remember the make of it, but it was one of the first on the market that did this, really top of the range stuff and it cost her a packet, on the never never. I had to teach her how to use it, it was too advanced for her. I used to keep it cleaned and oiled, when the man came from the shop to do a service(it was part of the package she bought) he said he couldn't do anything as it was allready done, who has done it? when my mum told him it was me that did everything, he said I should go to him for a job when I left school. See what your writing has done Marilyn, triggered memories for most of us. I made my mother a three piece suit when I was fifteen, she wore it to a wedding, and people wouldn't believe her when she told them where she got it. Excellent prose, a real joy to read. Bravo!!!!!

A splendid dedication to your mom, Marilyn, and like several others who have commented on it, my mom also had a Singer treadle sewing machine to mend our torn clothing and do alterations. As for me, I'm limited to sewing buttons by hand.
