Description

a very good morning today i was in two minds what to post .a shot of a portrait i took of ashleigh or one more from richmond and as you can see i went with ashleigh. i`m just learning myself about portraits ,experimenting with flash and lighting .this shot was taken against a wall at our craig`s last wednesday whilst babysitting .i have bought some material backdrops off the market and i`m gonna experiment with them aswell .i really love this pic the colours and the softness, but i daresay its not perfect and thats what learning is about . yesterdays pic was the common spud and jeff you were spot on with maris piper . thanks my friends for looking and your support :o) have a great wednesday mick

Nice portrait Mick, fun shot, I like her head gear lol. I'm really hopeless myself at taking portraits so you can't go off what I say, but I don't think the yellow background helps here Mick. I'm hoping to get some advice from other members too. I took some of Millie, she's ONE next week, all shots were disappointing.

A very pretty model, but not on YELLOW! The 3/4 face pose is absolutley classic, perfect with the nose not breaking the cheekline. and I love the eccentric head gear! The background makes her look jaundiced, Mick, but it has not spoilt her cheeky beauty one little bit!

I'm with everybody else Mick with regards to the Yellow background. You can't go painting your sons walls though can you, and you have to practice to get anywhere. I have looked around for backing myself and as yet have not found what I want. I am looking for something predominately white with lots of dappled lilacs and mauve in the fabric. Something not too bulky that you can drape over a chair or settee. Not too white and also not too dark, just a nice blend. Then the subject can be placed, apperture set as wide as possible to blur out the background but retain the colour. I just have to find my fabric now. The potrait itself is gorgeous Mick, Ashleigh is a little treasue and very photogenic, especially with her cheeky fun side showing, you're her granddad you don't need telling this bit. Excellent work mate. Bravo!!!!!

A lovely and fun portrait! I agree with the yellow though and what it does for the skin. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun experimenting with portraits ... it's an area I haven't tried myself. Looking forward to seeing more :D

What a lovely Grand Daughter indeed my friend :-) and yeah... the not smoking thing will take quite a while to leave your system [approx a month I think]. this is a fabulously shot photo buddy! ~ fair thee well mate. [Note: I just read my new upload comments, and want to thank you with a handshake and from my heart ~ what a great pal you are for my needed support!] wish we could meet somehow someday ~ and shoot the breeze together. you a a very cool friend I like to say :-) and wish you very well with that horrific battle with the withdrawals problem. to bad you are on a different continent otherwise I would be drinking a coffee or beer with you sometime! I really do admire your support!

I find the comments on this portrait very interesting. You may want to try PJ's workbench lighting. ;o) Alas, I am not one too knowledgeable about portraits, and backgrounds. I'd go with both a warm and cool lighting, one on each side, with a neutral background. I know portrait artists use a lot of black backgrounds, and greyish blues. A little experimenting may be fun, though. Your model is excellent in every way. She is quite a little girl. Bet you love her immensely! ;o)

Good job with this portrait. I am also experimenting with the subject. This child can only make any portrait you do look beautiful...but perhaps you can gently tell her that bears are best carried in arms and not worn on heads...LOL
