Description

Hello all! Another one of my photo captures this week that I did my smudgy hand paintings ( -with the mousein paintshop) on to this to draw out the background in a bold colored impressionistic style... I sure had fun watching this hungry little bear- i adore these guys so much!~ ( used to collect the little hand clip kuala's when I was a kid in the 70's remember those? lol they were all over my bed posts! ) I found it interesting that the koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning "no drink" because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves, ie during droughts etc. The koala is one of the only mammals, which can survive on a diet of eucalyptus leaves. I also got a capture of a baby koala on mama's back but since I already did a gorilla on back last time I opted for the composition of this one. Thanks for all your time and comments ! Love to you all! ((( BIG hugs ))) ~! Kimmers ! ♥ :O)

"I sure had fun watching this hungry little bear-" AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! Koalas are not BEARS!!! Aside from that - a very nice piece to salute one of our iconic creatures. It is a pity that in a couple of generations there will be none left. Koalas rely on large areas of healthy, continuously forested areas which are constantly being reduced by clearing and fire. Still, it has only appeared once on a commemorative 50 cent piece and when they are all gone I suppose the coins will go up in value.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that even though they only eat eucalyptus leaves that this plant is actually toxic to them! Crazy eh!? Wonderful capture Kim!
