Description

Hi - thanks for stoppping in. Yes this is a genre piece. I happen to like genre pieces.... so we have the classic Wizard character. This probably owes a lot to John Howe's various renditions of Gandalf. DAZ|Studio render. Postwork in Photoshop. Lighting three or four uberspots and an uberpoint light. I'm really enjoying the degree of control you get with these lights. For an interesting effect change the shadow color to a very dark version of the same color as the light and cut the shadow intensity a bit. I also used Dreamlight's spotlight pointer to fine tune the light cones from the spots. Character texture is 'Merlin' from RDNA - same basic setup as you see in my image 'the Ranger.' I used Capsces 'Brom' and M3's morphs with a lot of dial tweaking to get the face shaped the way I wanted. Hair is Kurt hair and clothing is DAZ's Wizard robes with the 'Wizard of Light' textures. pwSurface is used on almost everything you see. Background set is a freebie from Danie and Marfano. Wizard staff modeled in Zbrush by yours truely. The Magic effect was mostly done in Photoshop - it is a combination of of a sphere with pwGhost effects rendered as a seperate layer, lens flare and glow from Dreamlight's Mood Master and some hand painted electrical effects. There is also a layer with a brightness/contrast adjustment that is masked with a Mood Master render so the scene gets darker and lower contrast further away from the camera. The depth of field was done in Photoshop with the Mood Master render for a depth mask. As always, thanks for your comments and constructive criticism.

Gorgeous, gorgeous lighting. You did a magnificent job on the cloth and skin (of course). He reminds me just a bit of Raistlin from Dragonlance fame.

Gandalf was the first thing I thought of before reading the caption -^ The lighting and postwork is stunning! Only thing I would make different is make his hair "fly" a bit more, to show a bit more energy. But its definitely great the way it is -^
