Description

It's been my dream to get a picture of a Bald Eagle. Sure, I may have cheated by going to the Zoo, but hey, I'll take it! :) My heart went out to this gorgeous bird; as I stood there taking so many pictures of him - I wish he could go free. Instead, he was enclosed within a fairly small area, with netting all around. It looked as though his left wing was hurt, too. It didn't sit up tight against his body like the right one did. I stood in awe before him ... and when I went to bed last night, I found myself thinking of him; probably sitting there in this same position. In the dark. Alone. Drizzle falling on his feathers. But at least he wasn't hearing kids streaking, and people knocking on the glass. Zoo's break my heart. I should just be happy I got some nice photo's of some pretty cool animals. I hope you have a nice day. Shari

If the lion is king of the jungle, this is king of the skies. I look on Zoo's as a necessary evil in most respects. A couple of reasons being, without Zoo's quite a lot of people would never see different species of animals, another being that without them a lot more species would become extinct. Quite a lot are now into breeding and releasing and hold registers of animals for breeding and quite regulary loan out studs to other Zoo's so as not to interbreed. An excellent capture of this most regal of birds, one I also would love to see flying above his domain, rather than in a Zoo. Bravo!!!!!

Shari this is an outstanding image of such a handsome bird, I really hope that all isn't as bad as you think. Maybe he was rescued due to his damaged wing and he is recuperating until he can be set free, or perhaps used as part of a conservation programme - I truly hope that his future is hopeful - love and hugs Jane xx

You captured the majestic look and proudness in his pose, even if his surroundings weren't very regal. You also got the exposure perfect- many a photographer of WHITE feathers has suffered some burn out and loss of detail.

I hear you about the Zoo, the "animal-jail". I have some real tear-jerking shots of Orangs in San Diego looking bored. Someday, I hope you get to Sitka, Alaska. The eagles are really in their element there, salmon heaven!

Yeah, I don't care much for zoos either. But maybe this fellow was injured and unable to survive in the wild again... so let's think that the zoo is a safe-haven for this guy. Great shot of the Majestic Eagle...

Very good shot of a beautiful bird. I was lucky enough to see one in the wild in Southern Ontario Canada and I've heard reports of it flying over the city recently. I for one was shocked to see it in the wild but with conservation and reintroduction efforts, perhaps we will all get to see this magnificent bird as it was intended. My shot is not as detailed as yours but I have posted it here on RR if you'd like to take a look.
