Description

The Hot Tub Splashdown The first evening at the hotel in Truckee, California, my sister and I decided to soak in the hot tub. When we got to the spa, there weren't many people there at all. Two women, sitting on the edge, feet dangling in the water and a young couple, peacefully soaking in the hot, bubbly water, all enjoying themselves quietly. We set our towels down, peeled off our clothes (except for bathing suits, of course!!), grabbed our drinks and got ready to get in the water. This is where it got interesting~~~actually this is where it got horribly embarrassing, hysterically funny, and completely ridiculous. Instead of going around to the side with the handrail and the steps into the hot tub, I decided to just step down right into the water, onto the seat. Hah!!! BIG mistake!! The step down was MUCH further than I thought, the water made it look much shorter than it was. So, that step? Well, I stepped into the hot tub, thinking I had just a few inches to go. Nope, it was more like a foot or so and I missed the seat completely, went down in a perfect belly flop, sending tidal waves of water over everyone around. I came up sputtering and spitting out water with everyone asking if I was ok. Oh sure, I was fine, except for being totally mortified, humiliated beyond belief, and wishing I could just disappear!! My sister, of course, just stood there and laughed like crazy. All I could do was try and act as though nothing had happened. Not easy when you're in a hot tub, your hair's plastered to your face, your sunglasses are all askew, people have been drenched when they really didn't want to quite THAT wet, and they're just trying to have a nice, relaxing soak. I grabbed my glass, took a big long gulp of the tequila and tried to look a lot more composed than I really was. The women on the side were pretty nice, asked if I really WAS ok. The couple however, didn't look too happy, they kept staring at me, not saying a word, and finally just got up and left. Oh well, I mean, for heaven's sake, they were in a hot tub, did they expect NOT to get wet???? As for me, well, I enjoyed myself totally after all that, finished my drink, soaked and relaxed, as was the whole idea!! Later that night, as I was falling asleep I had this vision of what I really must've looked like ~~~~ I started laughing and my sister asked what was so funny, and that was that ~~ we howled for the longest time!! Next time I just might use the steps ~~~~~~ won't be nearly as entertaining, though!! 3/30/08

Gawd, Marilyn...you just made my Monday morning with this. I had to roll on the floor after reading this. Yes, water can be very deceiving when it comes to its depth. All in all, you sound like you really had a good time, tho, and that's what's important.

Can't take you anywhere, it could have been worse though, just think if you had your glass in your hand, you would have been drinking watered down tequila, now how bad is that? I know what is was, I just remembered PJ was in the hot tub the other day, you were trying to emmulate her. lol. It's a shame your sis didn't have a camera at the ready, do you want to go back for a retry? Fantastic tale, I will be laughing all night. Bravo!!!!!

LOL and LMAO! More tequila, amigos....pronto! An event, Marilyn, that if it happened to me, would leave me totally anxious, embarrassed, distressed, dissillusioned, scarred, and something to dream about for the rest of my life. And, did you feel guilty about upsetting the romantic reverie between the young couple? Castles in the air are wonderful, until you step out the front door.

What a great story! LOL! I can just see it now. Ummm ... about that trip to the spa when you come up here?? :) Use the stairs. Those tubs are REALLY deep, and the first step down would be a good two feet! Thanks for the story! :)
