Description

Another shot from the Passion Play rehearsal. Does anybody else see a bit of the Mona Lisa in the Roman Guard facing the camera? If you took her image and rotated it horizontally, the guard has that "look". And what's he smiling about anyhow? This is serious business he's got going! I think that is why I kept coming back to this image - even though it isn't the clearest shot, I kinda like it. I purposely tried to make it look like an old painting. Excellent POV with depth and I see the coincidence of the Mona Lisa, it forces one to smile despite the serious scene being depicted.

yes, I can see the 'enigmatic smile', and I can also see the old painting look. (It's got a Renaissance composition too...the three guards, 'epic', & the way the lower guards cut across the standing ones and lean into the crowd: drama and counterpoint, it's very much of that time!) It's wonderful to see all this theater—it's intense, close & alit, filled with reds, and love that you got the heads of the crowd—very theatrical! (bravo!)

The composition here is great, and yeah, that enigmatic smile...of course, with the crest on his helmet and the relative youth of his features, it's quite easy to see how young Flavius Meridius would be smiling...he's obviously been recently promoted. Okay, maybe that's me taking a bit of creative license, but then, this image seems to allow for that. It provides a lot of visual excitement and interest, and that vague smile DOES stand out in ways that lead to all sorts of extrapolations. Great work!
