Description

Seeing that I got stuck on New York this week, I thought I'll place this image of the Manhattan skyline. I took this shot from across the Hudson River on the New Jersey side with a 500mm zoom lens. I had the shutter open for approximately 45 seconds. The line of light behing the Midtown buildings is actually a helicopter in flight. The highrise building on the right is the Empire State Building and the clump of buildings more to the left is Midtown Manhattan - where Times Square is also situated! Thank you for popping in. Hugs, Carin xx

A very nice capture Carin. After I came to New York City in spring of 1962 I went up to the top of the Empire State Building the first morning, and to the top of the Statue of Liberty in the afternoon. I took a picture once from the Pallisades side of the Hudson (NJ), a night shot, with all the ocean liners moored mid-town (it was in 1968) and then I double exposed the full moon into it. The problem was it was 400ASA b&w film (I normally used 64ASA) and the 10 second exposure of the full moon looked like a street light. I am still thinking about trying it again, but nowadays you could put the moon in on the computer. To me thats not the same, Sig....

Good heavens...the last time I was in NY City was about 48 years ago. It seemed big then but it sure had gotten bigger...or at least taller. Beautiful night shot.

When I first saw it I thought a plane, then I read the narrative, lol. Excellent capture Carin, the exposure was spot on, love the star effect round the lights, and I agree with Alan, about being there in person. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
