Description

To me this is a totally ordinary scene and barely worth notice, never mind taking a picture! However, it sometimes occurs to me that not everyone lives where I live, so I thought I'd show you a little slice-of-life shot. These divers are getting ready to go out to the underwater park at Edmonds. If you want to know what it looks like down there, I found a YouTube video and there's lots of information about the park on line. The red buoys mark the location of the park. This shot was taken about 45 minutes after low tide, shortly after noon. At this time of year, the surface temperature of the water is around 45F, and deeper is colder! I probably wouldn't have noticed these folks, but I had an out-of-town guest (Vaggabondd) and was doing the tour guide thing. It's fun to see your own town through someone else's eyes! I always forget to take shots like this, because I tend to be more focused on details and angles and light.

Nice scene..they are lucky that it is so close to shore..the Yongala is a very popular diveing spot out from Townsville..they have to travel a long way to get to it..so to have something this close is great..

I always wondered what the underwater park was like, thanks so much for the link to the video! Great shot, leads the mind to wondering...water is a bit choppy and looks very cold, great contrast between that and the reflections on the shore!

I never knew there was such a thing as an underwater park, except when ours was flooded. So thanks for sharing Tara, great video, not checked out the info yet. Excellent image and narrative. Bravo!!!!!

Absolutely fascinating, and the video adds to it. I must say my North America geography is appalling, I often wish we all had a little map on our home page. I haven't a clue where most folk live, and I don't understand the state abbreviations!

Oh it must have been a ball to have good company in such cold weather. It is very pleasing how the red buoys line the water surface. I am sure I would not have been so enthusiastic to dive in these cold waters.

And after this you'll show us the pics of you and Randy donning wet suits to take some underwater shots, right??? ;'] I watched the video ... this place rocks! Thanks for sharing this. And I understand perfectly about not seeing photo ops in your own town. I find myself constantly thinking there's nothing else to photograph here ... would be great to have another pair of eyes to confer with. Beautiful capture!

Personally I think that the best place to be is on top of the water..:) but admire these folks for their determination and skills.. and a nice candid image..

it is common for people living in their own town to overlook beautiful and interesting sights but a stranger will spot them.an old story about Monterrey Mexico which has beautiful mountains. a tourist tells a local you sure are lucky to live here and the local asks why. well you have these beautiful mountains.the local asks where!! excellent capture
