I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

I agree -- what a great expression on that magnificent animal! Glad he allowed you to leave without incident... I guess this is a prime example of shoot-and-run. ;o) Excellent photo and presentation.

Boy you'd better give this big old chap a wide berth, when he charges :)....Wonderful capture, stuck in a dump like London, it's a real eye opener to see these images!

He is magnificent and your capture of him is too! Look at the character you got in his face...the wide stance...the sizing up of you in his eyes. You really put yourself out there for this shot and it was so worth it! Excellent.

Wow. Thanks for all the info, on the Steenbokkie too! Hmm, now dreaming of the Kruger Park myself. Most of the wildlife around here are in cages. Things to do! Cheers, Clive

a brave shot of Mr Stroppy Face ! i agree about the unpredictablility. someone told me that the Masai say the same thing, and if they can't read these blighters then the rest of us need to be very careful. (but i don't think the frame works, it seems distracting ?)
mickuk50
he looks a mean beggar does`nt he .i dont think even i would of been this brave for a shot .excellent capture carin mick
JeffG7BRJ
He looks like one mean beasty, the sheer power of the thing, those enormous sholders, and like you say so unpredictable. I would most certainly not want to get on the wrong side of this chappy. Someone has already mentioned the frame Carin, I wouldn't say it was distracting, but maybe a tad narrower would be better. Excellent capture, you are one brave lady. Bravo!!!!!
Richardphotos
same for the American bison, very unpredictable. a brave and superb capture

A beautiful capture Carin. I assume you used your 400mm lens and that you had an escape plan!
Meisiekind
Thank you for the comments on the frame all. I'll look into it. Sig, I actually took this with +- 100mm and the vehicle was idling - that was the escape plan!!! :)

You captured the fierce looks very well, indeed the most cantankerous of the big 5.
