Description
Hi folks. Long time no see. The reason I'm posting today, is because something has come to my attention, and I think it's critical that every one of us, in the artistic community, knows and does something about it.
Let me start by asking you, how many images do you have at RR? A few hundred? A thousand?
What if you had to pay a registry for every one of those images, or anyone could use them, and it would be totally legal?
What if, in fact, to truly protect them, you had to pay several registries, for each one of them?
Could you afford it?
Now imagine if you had to pay several registries for EVERY SINGLE IMAGE YOU'VE EVER TAKEN, or anyone could use them, anywhere, at any time, WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION.
How many photos have you taken this year? A thousand? Ten thousand? That's just this year. How many photos have you taken altogether, in all the years you've had a camera? Hundreds of thousands?
Can you afford to copyright them all in multiple locations? I know I couldn't.
And if, like me, you couldn't, are you willing to accept that any of them could be used without your permission and with no compensation to you for them, at all?
Because that's exactly what could happen.
Think it's not possible? Then you haven't heard of the Orphaned Works Legislation that is currently being pushed through Congress.
If you are an American citizen, ( and even if you are not ), we, as creative people need to do every single thing in our power to see that this bill does not pass.
For more information, I urge you to take the time to read this article.
Or, if you prefer, you can read the excerpted version that I have posted in the forum.
Either way, you owe it to yourself, and every person you know who cherishes the right to their own images, to do something about this... Today.
Thank you for your time.
All my best,
-Marlene :^)

Stunning work Marlene and I love that you have used some of your other works in this one too! Thanks for the heads up - doesn't seem like this can become legal though, I mean, it's like passing a bill that says it's okay to go around robbing peoples houses!! I'm going to take a look right now!

Neat manip here Marlene. We've discussed the Orphaned Works Leg. a bit in the Forums. Let's hope it never comes to pass.

Hé Marlene, so nice to see you here... and with a colorful magazine-quality picture ! Highly modern & artistic style ! I know nothing about this new US legislation (but as I became a member of a major american company, I'm still puzzled - to say the least - by american laws and attorneys...) As I'm not doing photography for living, I feel always very honored when I hear that someone has used one of my picture (and I do it always for free !) As of the images in our RR gallery, the size is to small to be able to do something with it, and so people have to ask...) I really do hope that you are doing fine, ma chère amie ! Hugs & kisses from BeNeLux !

That's what is so shocking about it, Carl. It is legalised theft. 'An Orphaned Work is any creative work of art where the artist or copyright owner has released their copyright, whether on purpose, by passage of time, OR BY LACK OF PROPER LEGISLATION. In the same way that an orphaned child loses the protection of his or her parents, your creative work can then become an 'orphan' for others to use without your permission. It is currently against international law to coerce people to register their work for copyright because there are so many inherent problems with it. But because big business can push through laws in the United States, this country is about to break with the rest of the world, again, and take our rights away. With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense. Two proponents of this new legislation are Corbis and Getty Images. Do you see how they could benefit from considering most works of art in the world orphans? Do you know who owns Corbis? Bill Gates.'

I love your work, big fan, but, you know there are some certain rules artists and photographers need to follow.... Yes, we do have rules that we need to follow - the biggest most popualar... we'll call it rule one... you broke the rule one rule - lol ...do you know what it is??? What would you think is the number one rule? Light... Your shaddow is wrong off your girl... I can't believe you'd broke the rule one rule - lol on a more serious note, I seen you video... your style of presenting art is simular to the way I do - no wonder you're a favorite - you gonna fix that shaddow or do I have to tell the cab driver to run her over? lol

LOL Just pretend the shadow is coming from the headlights of the car in front of her, Mike... ;^P

This is an awesome manip. Good to see here again even if it is with such a dire issue. I am not making money from my photos now, but I don't want someone else making money from them without getting a cut. If the law passes, I may remove my gallery as simple as it may be. Take care.

I'll check it out.... nice work!

that what I thought the shadow is falling from the car lights in front. They going to do evil and we can not stop them. it like globle warming. they fire the sciene people that say no . now they going to tax us for globle warming and for art too.

Are you trying to scare the chit out of us???? If this even comes close to happening, I'm moving next to Andreas in Sweden...lol I've seen this pic of yours in MM, but what I didn't notice were all the billboards with images of you and Paige...To me that's the best part of this image. that shadow from the car headlights bothers me a bit. Did the girl survive after the bus ran her over? lol Good to see that Long Island hasn't sunk into the Atlantic Ocean.

Good Golly Girl!! I've seen this image before but not at full size, I missed so many details...What great colors and lighting, blows out my little eyeballs~~I had to chuckle to myself seeing Paige and the hubby on the billboards, great touch! Talk about magazine cover...on a scale of 1-10 I give it a fitty! So nice to see ya post, was missing your inspiration! Thanks for the info on the legislation....so figures ole Bill is behind this crap...I'm off to read up about this atrocity, this could be the end to photo sites like this one if this should pass, no to mention the money togs could loose over the long run....Thanks for the heads up and the lovely image...you know I have to steal this one don't ya? Aloha to you!!
timtripp
stylish!

Wheweeeeee, you've made this one in neon!!!!!! Super cool, you're so damn creative!!!! It sure is nice to see you posting here, like a breath of fresh air!! We've all missed your inspiring images, but everyone understands the need to move on too!! Thanks for the info on this outrageous legislation!! I've taken down all the info to start writing my representatives, it somehow doesn't surprise me, but it really infuriates me to no end!!! I know where "Bill" lives and maybe I'll have to just stop by while he's not home and say "hey, I can't seem to locate the owner of this place, I think I'll just claim it for myself"!!!!! now you got me started... I hope all is well with you & the family!!! sure miss you... ;-)

Just awesome perspective and art work, 5 star! Sad to hear about the implications and we all strive to go either professional or have a guaranteed income on the side from this hobby/profession. I am opening the page now to read...
