Description

About a month ago, Harry (goodoleboy) posted a few shots of palm trees from this very interesting perspective. I was inspired! We don't have palm trees up here. Well - not healthy ones, in any event. Every once in a while someone (undoubtedly from out of town) decides the landscape could use a few, but they don't last very long. So here you have a Douglas Fir tree. I stood right at the base and shot up into the tree, but realized quite quickly that I would need another shot from the street in order to show you how tall the tree really is. The shot on the left is the full length version, of course, and the lowest branches are "about here." The shot on the right is looking up into those low branches. A few people had said they get vertigo looking up like that, and I was interested to see if it would bother me to take a shot of this sort, but I suffered no ill effects. The house on the right is mine, by the way. Thanks, Harry!

OMG, you went ahead and did it! As you promised, a looking up, crick-in-the-neck, falling-over-backwards, capture of a Douglas fir tree. Good idea to have a reference shot on the left (why didn't I think of that?), with fine lighting and textural effects displayed in the right photo. That said, thank you much for the dedication, my dear friend! It is appreciated beyond comprehension, plus I can always use the support. I'm happy I could add a new dimension to your already extensive photography acumen.

Wonderful shots. The one on the left is great as I love to see how towering these trees can get.

So fantastic to see how far up the trees can get. Beautiful shots both of them. We have pretty high trees here in DK too.

So interesting to see your house, Tara! I'm one of those who has to be a bit careful lookingup, OK if I'm not looking THROUGH something, eg camera or binoculars!

Fantastic bark texture Tara, I don't have any pics of trees like this, but I do have a factory chimney, looking straight up from ground level and a well stood back shot for reference as well, I will have to see if I can find it and post tomorrow if I can. I have done this with a few chimney's but never thought about it with trees. Mind you we do not have many trees like this, most of ours have branches pretty low down, so wouldn't get the same effect. Excellent capture and great that you included the street shot for a reference. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
