Description

The Old Post Office in Tintagel, Cornwall, is a 14th century stone manor house that was a Post Office for 50 years, has been restored and is now in the National Trust. So many buildings in this area utilize the native slate for their roofs and fences, with many of the roofs undulating like this from the many years of bearing the weight of the slate stone. On large buildings and small, it adds such charm, and many of the fences use this lovely herringbone pattern with plenty of room in the nooks and crannies for mosses and plants to grow, and even a hidden bird nest or two. It was like walking onto a Harry Potter movie set and I felt like I was in another place and time, and was totally enthralled with the area. Thanks very kindly for your views and comments.

What an interesting building this is. I'm glad you explained the roof because I noticed it and wondered if my eyesight was failing me. I looked at it longer and decided I wasn't daffy, that it really did look like that. I enjoyed your explanation of the construction materials.

I hope you enjoyed your stay in England Maria........... They say the best things come in small packages. Our British scenery comes in small packages (compared to the US) and its certainly the best in the world!!

Talk about quaint! Good heavens, what manner of manor is this, with that erratic roof structure? And so pristine it doesn't even look real, as if a model in miniature. It also looks like something from various cartoons I used to see when I was a kid, and does resemble something from a Harry Potter film. I wouldn't be surprised if there were fairies and elves cavorting about the bushes. Anyway, terrific capture in every aspect, Maria!
