Description
The last few days have been crazy..The fires here in Santa Cruz Started just a few miles from my house and has gotten closer an closer..as close as 2000 feet from our property on one side and still raging out of control about a half mile away on the other side..I have been raking,weed eating and removing as much burnable stuff as i can,i also have to scout for small fires and embers all the time..Today i found an ember on my driveway as big as a cantalope,it looked like it was super heated and popped like popcorn.We live on 6 really steep acres in the redwood forest an its impossible to make it completely fire safe.
Helecopters fly over every 5 minutes or so dropping water so close i can feel the spray,the smoke is thick and stings your eyes and wrecks your throat..I sent the family down the canyon to a neighbors and am here alone,except for a neighbor below me and my dog Lily..They say it is 35 percent contained..I dont really see it at this end...There was a chance of rain today but it didnt happen...last night i watched most of the ridge across from me burn,sometimes it was a s bright as day when a clump of trees would ignite...I love this place and am crushed beyond anyones realization...I am not gonna leave either..I have spent my whole life getting here,this is my dream and i wont let it go up in smoke without a fight with all the strength i have..we were told to evacuate days ago..if i did my place would be gone right now..I need to go back out and patrol with Lily the super dog...Wish me luck and strength and pray for the weather to help us out..and for my friends and neighbors who have lost thier homes and sanity(i am sure)I pray that something good will come your way..and i am sorry....Truelly sorry...

Lost for words here Bill, did not know you were in the danger area. The only thing I can do from my part of the world is hope things will get better soon. Stay safe my friend and keep the hope alive.

I understand that your home and dream are at risk, but so are you my friend. Things can be replaced, but not life, please take good care. I pray your strength holds, and that all which you love and care for comes through this ordeal intact. I wish there were something more I can do. Please keep us informed.........Oh by the way....this is a lovely piece of work.

Please take care. I agree with Elfin12u, things can be replaced, I know that sounds heartless, but it's true. As long as you get the living things out or taken care of, animals and people that's the important thing. You still have time to get private papers etc., out that's important. I know very well what fires can do and how fast they can travel. We had some horrible fires in France and they seemed to take on a life of their own. Please take care you are in our prayers.

Take Care and stay safe bill.... Of all that you are protecting remember that you are the most important aspect. Becuase as hard as it is, As you are around, you can rebuild. Keep your head about yourself. And watch out for Lily. My daughter says "Keep your head up high!"

Oh my God, Bill, I was going to write you about it to see how close you are to fires as I knew you lived someplace cose by there, and now I know. This is really horrid!! You and your family, pets, and property have been on my mind the past days and I am praying for your safety and the safety to all you hold dear. Good luck with all this and thank you for posting.
