Renderosity has opened a whole new world to me, its a fantastic place and have had some brilliant support from many new friends.  I retired from work very early through ill health so I took to photography from the very basics.
Since joining I have grown in confidence with my photography and I now think because of RR that I take it a little more seriously. I started off here using a Fuji Finepix 6500fd, it took some great pictures but I'm hooked now so I have now(April 2008) bought a DSLR SAMSUNG DX10 and having fun learning the settings etc. ( these things take me a while lol)Â
I am so fortunate to be with a wonderful person in my life, Sylvia. She is not just my partner but of course she's also my best friend. Previously I have been married but seperated a few years ago and have two fantastic children. I NOW have two fantastic grandchildren !!!
My interests are photography, i have had a dabble at Acrylic painting, and I enjoy long walks out in the countryside.      I also have an interest in anything historical.  I want to have a sample of just about everything there is in photography, who knows what the future holds!
Thanks for calling by.    Alan

Sorry mate I can't help with this one, maybe Andrea will know. You must be feeling tickled pink with the first time shot of one. I used to see them regular when fishing, they used to rest on the rod tip, but I never had a camera with me whilst fishing and since I stopped I haven't seen many at all. Wonder where you managed to find this one? A pity it's not from a different angle as the back looks very colourful, or was it the sky reflected in it? I'm pleased for you anyhow pal. Excellent first timer, you will be out there now striving for one better, well I know I would. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

A critter which has eluded me so far, I admire your patience. And they are probably not good at autofocus settings.

As much as I love nature, it isn't always in love with me and I can't get withing 100 feet of anything that flies... unless it is sleeping or in the process of dying... I think this is a very fine first dragonfly!

http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Odonata a good place to start excellent first capture. when trying to capture dragons or damsels be slow with your movements and if they fly just wait in the same spot as most return to the same twig.often you can sneak up to the rear and as they get use to you slowly move to the front. I have not even tried this year because of constant winds everyday
