Description

My image today is more of an illustration. In fact, the images are really not great at all. What I am trying to do is to show you all how close we get to the animals when on safari in a private game reserve. Both these pictures were taken in the Thorny Bush Private Game Reserve in South Africa. The "eskimo" wearing the red hat in the small image is me trying to photograph the lion lying just next to the (open) vehicle!!! As you can see, he is in the shadow which explains partly the poor quality of the picture. I have indicated two lions with white arrows on the small image and there was a third just behind the bushes and not visible on the image! Please keep in mind that these are wild animals in their natural habitat.... [The vehicle is quite high but the physical distance between the vehicle and the lion was +- 2.5 meters!! It always give me such an adrenaline rush being so close to one of these gorgeous cats and I really wanted to share it with you!!! Thank you for visiting my gallery and for any comments to wish to make. Hugs, Carin xx

It must have been so exciting and exhilerating being so close, I visited Kenya in 1990 and 1991 and saw a number of big cats which was one of the highlights of my life during the 90's! Thanks for the story of where you were, it all adds to the vision xx

The image looks great to me, Carin! An "open vehicle"?!! For adrenaline junkies, right? :) I wonder if the lions are looking at you and thinking: "Mmmmmm! franks in the jacket!" :)

I know how thrilling it is to encounter a bobcat or porcupine or skunk in the wild so I can only imagine what its like to have this sort of contact with large, preditory/savanna creatures. I don't know if I could remember to raise my camera...probably just stare with a slack-jaw. (dont' laugh...skunks are probably more dangerous to humans than bobcats... bobcats will run and hide, skunks will lift their nasty tail and spray you! LOL)
