The Seattle Center, complete with Space Needle, Monorail, Coliseum, Fun Forest, Food Circus and Bubbleator, opened for business in 1962 for the Seattle World's Fair. I remember going as a small child, and being totally overwhelmed by the vastness of the place, all the people, the noise, and the agenda of the adults who dragged me along. All I was interested in was going on the rides! After the Fair closed, the grounds remained in use as a public space. Locals go there for concerts and sporting events, to visit the Science Center and the Lazarium, and to take their children on the rides. The Bite of Seattle and Bumbershoot, two huge outdoor annual festivals, are held on the grounds. While the Seattle Center has changed some over the years, the rides are still there ... at least for a little while longer ... and I had fun taking pictures of what's left when Marilyn and I were there a couple weeks ago. This is a photograph of the side of a building, with the carousel and ferris wheel reflected in its windows. On the far left you can see one leg of the Space Needle. The rows of light that appear to be hung across the sky are on the inside of the building, of course.
