Description

A lazy afternoon in Tortuga.... I wanted to try some HRDI lights with my favourite characters and my new Lizzie for V4 (Thanks to AdamThwaites!). I'm really satisfied with the result of this image, everything looks like I wanted it to, Depth of Field inclusive. Somehow I have the feeling that I have to change the textures of their shirts and her breeches too, they still look too much artificial. What do you think? Your opinion and help is highly appreciated! D3 V4 to V3 Keira by AdamThwaites Carrara 6 Pro PhotoImpact 12 Hoist the colours high! ~Sassy~

I like the outcome too. May want to play around with spotlights on her pants... I like the wrinkles in his.

I like it also. Maybe some fabric bump for the shirt would help, but the color is perfect!!! Very Well Done Creation!!!

Is that a diamond skull on her belt? Just who "acquired" that; Lizzie, or Jack? That's worth a kingdom(or two). His breeches are fine, as are the vest and sash. The shirts and her breeches are a bit smooth. Just a wee bit rougher texture on the your fabrics, they render smoother than the initial look. My son tried to steal the laptop(as usual when he sees your pirate work)again. Love it as always. --SafyrDrathmir

Great job with your HRDI lights. Most of your clothing textures come out nicely as well. I suppose you used a smoother material for the shirts than the breeches and boots, so you wouldn't see as much texture from this distance even in an actual photo. Depth of field and atmosphere came out very nicely - excellent work.

Lovely work Sassy... I think you should be very happy with the way this turne out. The lighting is really well done, and the depth of field adds a nicely photographic sense to the scene. The composition is excellent (as always). I will agree with you the the textures on the shirts could use a bit of tweaking. Given that the cloth they would be made of would very likely be a fairly loose weave (like a linen), I'd say that you could use a bump map to give the weave pattern, and add some slight variations to the color map to achieve a really good effect (granted, since I'm not familiar with Carrara, I don't know if it has the ability to use shaders, but if so, then you should be able to set up a really nice shader to handle the cloth textures). As for Lizzie's breeches, I'd like to see more detail... not sure what type of fabric they'd be made out of, but they are a bit too uniform in the color... possibly add some variations to the color map. Great image hun... can't wait to see the next one.

This is really nice...love the pose and expressions. But it seems her pants are my issue...they are so inky black, that they look a bit flat. Plus, maybe a bit of cropping may have helped here too, as the background seems a bit flat compared to the quality of your work on your characters. Overall, I'd be thrilled if I could do work like this! Thanks for sharing!

Superb render...Beautiful characters and well posed...Excellent atmosphere! 5+++ P.S. I like this render as is...but also agree with SafyrDrathmir, the shirts and her breeches are a bit smooth and just a small amount of rougher texture may help..would also try mikeerson idea with a small amount of lighting on her pants.

I gotta say, you've definitely got a great handle on these characters, the best I've seen yet. I like the lighting too, though one thing with HDRI/IBL lighting is that it tends to soften shadows a bit too much. I'd suggest adding a weak spotlight with a strong-ish shadow (if that's possible in Carrara), to add a little bit of definition to the lighting here. As for textures, in poser I like to add cloud and fractal nodes to clothing to "dirty them up" a little bit. I don't know if that can work out for you, though if not I would recommend trying some cloth textures from Aery Soul (even the free ones are superb). I've found using them as a base works out quite well.
