Description

Between 12/8/05 and 12/19/05, nature put on a wild display of cloud formations rarely seen over Southern California. During that bizarre period a potpourri of various and sundry clouds drifted overhead at various levels, some white and billowy, some black and threatening, most in odd patterns, and some in the shape of vapor trails and/or contrails going every which way, all at the same time (there were no aircraft involved). Technically speaking, it was a hodgepodge of altocumulus, cumulus, cirrus, dry nimbostratus and fair weather cumulus on display. Surprisingly, no rain fell from any of this. I had to act quickly in shooting most of these spectacular formations because of the rapid transformation of the subject matter. No time to run around looking for the perfect vantage point to photograph from....couldn't risk losing the capture. I snapped 172 photos of this event and will be periodically showing images of this grand and glorious show in the sky. Incidentally, these shots were taken several months before I joined the photo gallery department of Renderosity, so the resolution -- 640x480 pixels -- isn't up to my current higher resolution standards. Have a nice day, and enjoy yourselves, it's later than you think.

I only had a lucky day once in my life to witness cloud formations like these. Truly fascinating and almost scary looking these fluffy puffy clouds. Like the colors you did a great job capture these Harry.

These are wonderful captures, my dear! I recall that you posted some from this series quite a while back. Such fascinating stuff! Of course we have clouds all the time up here, but the formations you got during that time down there are just amazing. I'll look forward to more!

Wonderful display and well captured despite the low res. Nothing to decorate the skies like the clouds.
