Description

This is a shot of an extinct volcano known as Diamond Head. Houses and hotels surround what was once a hellish place. Today, it is the landmark of Waikiki. Can you detect where the smudges were on the airplane window through which this shot was taken (look at the full image to inspect)? Click on the photo below to see bi-directional views from ground level. thumb_1706233.jpg

Thanks for some memories. I passed through Hawaii four times--thanks to the USAF--and Diamond Head was the only part of the Islands that I saw--and that either from the airplane window or through the fence at Hickum Field!

I have taken quite a few shots of Diamond Head myself. This is a great shot. Not often you can fly overhead like this. Aloha, nice work.

Those are administrative buildings housing the folks who take care of the place. Some may be US Army-related structures.

Excellent view from the top and no, I can't see the smudges, unless it's the shape of a cloud on the bottom just right of the center? I think the people are crazy to build inside the mouth of this crater geyser!

This is so exiting because I can see something I have never seen bevore. Absolutely hot. I like the sighting very much. As I was younger, I did a lot of aerial photography with a big WILD 13x18cm Flugaufnahme-Kamera. But, the past does not feed me...

Wonderful shot! I'm not sure I'd have the nerve to build in the remains of a volcano (Extinct or not) but that's one really cool view!
