Description

Neither of the wrestler/actor or Alcatraz here, The Rock is what this spot is known as by me and a few friends, including Rich, who uploaded a shot of the spot quite a while ago (link), while I featured it a little more recently in Elemental. With today's shot although you can't quite make out the entirety of that particular rock (it's on the left), I wasn't really after the same kind of shot, it was more a study of the textures and curves of the rocks exposed by the low tide than an attempt at a scenic and dramatic b&w... In my head the working title for this was something like 'A Study in Texture' as the postwork involved lots of dodging and burning to try and enhance the local contrast and details of the stone. If you're not familiar with the technique and have photoshop I recommend checking out Rich's excellent tutorial on local contrast enhancement (found under the photography tuts). Hope it was worth my efforts, spent a while working on this one in an attempt to spare you all from yet another sunrise pic! Have a great day one and all, and if you've got any sunshine to spare do you think you could maybe send some on over to Scotland, it would be much appreciated! Cheers ;) Adam P.S. I had real issues sharpening this one after resize due to all the fine detail, lots of trial and error with various methods, any of you masters out there have any tips? (I have a feeling myself it might be a touch oversharpened...)

Wow. Adam sure you brought a texture out wonderfully. Almost a 3d work. Actually I know a computer game called "Riven" straight away this game came to my mind. It has great landscape grafic like this capture. Fantastic picture.

Great work, Adam. A great shot with so many pictures within the picture. The rock on the left and the lighting looks great. Well done, Clive

Beautiful photo!!! :) I did not give you suggestions on sharpening ... I am not very good as a photographer. On the other hand, I can send you a piece of the Sicilian sun! ;)

In my opinion you enhanced color and texture in the right direction if "drama" was the element after. Excellent work.

STUNNING! Adam, whatever you did was worth the time and effort, it's an amazing piece of work. (Although I possess CS3, I sharpen in free and easy old Picassa, as it doesn't affect the colours or anything. I shouldn't think that's much help to you!)
