Description

I'm always mesmerized and fascinated by most things to do with nature, though I may not be the most knowledgable about what exactly it is I'm looking at/photographing. After a bit of research it seems to me that this is the poisonous Dart Frog, capable of releasing toxins through its skin which can be lethal to potential predators. Few species can cope with its deadly poison and so the frog has very few natural predators. Apparently in South America and Colombia there are certain tribes which use the poison of the most potent species of this type of frog to poison the tips of blowgun darts. This little fellow was photographed in South Africa (shot through glass). It's another miserable grey day here in Scotland, not really in keeping with my plans to wander around leisurely for a few hours with camera in hand unfortunately, so I thought I'd try and brighten my day up somewhat with posting up a bit of colour =) Thanks to emmecielle for sending some Sicilan sun on over, but I think it got lost in transit! Have a great day now, Adam (please do correct me if I've got the wrong info on this little beastie ;))

Wow, what bright blue color. They say even the most colorful fish are poisonous. Glad you were behind the glass. I have never seen one before. Guess that is a good thing. Nice work. Aloha

Incredible colour and subject! He is most unique and beautiful both in his design, colour and texture... hard to believe this little guy could be proclaimed as potentially "dangerous" :) I love the setting, so very natural..... Gorgeous composition!

Glad you took this excellent shot. I took several images of "blue frogs" in the Kansas City (USA) zoo several weeks ago and missed reading the sign that would have given me the details... I like you gallery and your emphasis on special lighting effects. Look forward to seeing your photos from France. Bill
