Description

Excerpt From the memoirs of early interstellar explorer Dr. Albert Xi: Most explorers can still remember the first inspiration that made them turn from the world of their birth, and countless thousands of ancestors, to wander the terrifying and beautiful depths of our neighborhood of this little galaxy we call home. I think mine will always be the first time I looked - I mean really looked - through a telescope powerful enough to see the stellar nurseries of our galaxy. It wasn't like a bolt of lightning, as you often hear, but as if someone had reached into me, taken a piece of my very soul, and walked slowly and teasingly outwards to the stars. For the next several nights all I could see when I closed my eyes was those stars. When I first heard the distant radio-wave shriek of those same newborn stars, I felt another piece of myself leave this world. I knew then, I'd never again be content to stay here on this small rock. ---------------- I'm finding that this Doctor Xi is becoming a really persistent voice in my creative process. I wonder if he's trying to tell me something? Another nebula assembled in photoshop. This one made use of a couple of shots I took of clouds on my Nikon D-40, but most of this is just Photoshop, layers and filters. Thanks for taking a look, and comments, suggestions and questions are always welcome!

Wow, that looks a lot more like a real nebula. You must have taken some inspiration from those Photoshop tutorials on using cloud images for nebulae and explosions....

Doctor Xi has the words, you have the painting skills - what a great combination! I, for one, am happy for the two of you to continue to explore the universe...

The amount of light makes me think of a nursery for new stars. On a philosophical note: I wonder what we will encounter if we get there where these images come from, seeing the we look at history of millions of years ago...
