Description

This dedication means a lot to me as it is for my dear friend Ute, or better known here as Syltermermaid. Ute is one of the sweetest and most caring ladies you will ever meet, and I am so glad to call her my friend. She produces some of the most incredible and beautiful characters for Poser that you have ever seen and has a talent for making them seem so realistic. Ute has cared for many family members over the years who have been ill and I believe she is as close to a saint as you will ever find. I know she would never ask you so I will to please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. This story Ute shared with me really hit home and in all honesty made me want to hug my nieces as I was writing it. This is for you my dear friend Ute, Dave Bedtime Stories (For Syltermermaid): Ute grew up in a small village by the North sea and at a young age had a desire to learn. When Ute would hear other kids talk about their Mom reading bedtime stories to them it made her envy them as her Mom never did that for her. One day without her Mom knowing Ute slipped into the library and began looking through the books. She came upon a book Hasenschule (School Of Rabbits) and took it to the front. The Librarian knew Ute, looked at her smiling and said. {Ute your are not in school yet, and can't read} With this Ute got upset and responded {I need this book because I want to learn) She could see how serious Ute was and let her take the book. Little Ute read the book and many more and was one of the few kids who could read before she started school. Later as she got older she saw Hasenschule in a little book shop one day and she bought that book and still has it to this day. To be honest this got to me so much to see a child so eager to learn and no one to teach her. If you have a little one and find your either too tired or too busy to read bedtime stories to them at night I hope you'll think back to little Ute and make time. Nice as ever. I particularly like the contast of colours on this one - the subdued beiges of the library clashing with the bright shades of the girl's clothes, the lipstick and the apple. The love of reading is so powerful for so many children and some of our first books will always stay with us. I don't think I'm the only one who will always have place in my heart for the Mr Men, Thomas the Tank Engine and Mog the Forgetful Cat ("Bother that cat!").

Wow - you have this marvelous way with words. Really you do. I was all teared up by the end of your story about Ute. So beautiful. I can relate because I DO have two little ones and they want me to read to them at night. What an amazing thing - that Ute could read before she started school. Wow - that is soo cool. Now, on to your picture: Wonderfully detailed as always! Love the apple on the desk, the cupcake in Ute's hand, the beautiful expressions on both character's faces. Cool staircase in the background and nice job showing the library with all the many books and bookcases. Beautifully lit and colorful too. And the dress Ute is wearing is adorable. Love this picture! Fav for me! :) P.S. So sorry I didn't comment sooner. I just got to this picture.

Seems I'm one time more the last the comment!LOL I came just home and was so amazed what you made out of the little story I told you from my childhoud! It is wonderful Dave as all your images and it means a lot to me. Would you allow me to print this image out and put it in a frame? It is a very precious gift for me! Thank you soo much for it. The "Hasenschule" was not as thick as the book Maddy is holding,LOL, I think with something thick like this I would never learned reading. Mine had a lt of wonderful pictures!!LOL I have two daughters and when they were small I read them a lot of stories, because I missed it so much when I was a child. But on the other side, you never know for what it was good, I learned that I have to do something myself if I want something and not to wait that it falls in my hands!! Thank you again for this wonderful gift, it means so much to me!!!! And by the way, I'm far away from a saint!!!LOL Hugs Ute

This is so beautiful Dave! I love your dedications and creations that go along with it. It breaks my heart to hear of parents that don't take the time to read to thier children. As an educator, I have seen and have worked with students whose parents do not read to them. It is indeed sad. It is amazing that Ute took the iniciative and taught herself how to read. It shows that she is strong, assertive, independent and a kind soul. Great qualities to have. Dave your depiction of this story is truly amazing. Your characters and thier expressions are priceless. Awesome work!

A beautiful render Dave and a lovely story. It reminds me of all the nights I spent reading to my children right up till they were about 8years old even though they could read very well by then. I love the expressions on both of them as they really tie into your story and that is such a cute little outfit on Ute.

Very good points made here, Dave, Ute, and Julesart. While it was unfortunate Ute's mother didn't read to her, it was more important that Ute took it upon herself to learn. If that desire isn't there, if the will to act on it isn't there, it won't matter. That, along with taking time to read to kids, is something important for all of us. Nothing is granted to any of us. We have to work for what we want. Great job as always!

As always Dave you make these characters so very human with their expressions and posing. The librarian seems so awed by Ute's rather matter-of-fact desire to read and learn on her own. And you've constructed a wonderful library environment too. I see Ute came with a little bribe for the librarian just in case she had to make it worth her while in granting that book loan. Where did that apple come from after all? Excellent experience for later in life when dealing with the odd banking officer. I'm such a cynic. My first experience in a library had me examining a book on basic astronomy for children. Yup, just like Carl Sagan. I think we all recall the revelation when we first learn that the stars are other suns (but very far away) and that the Sun is just another star (but very close). The universe suddenly becomes much more grander than we could have imagined it when the day began.
