Description
This dedication means a lot to me as it is for my dear friend Ute, or better known here as Syltermermaid. Ute is one of the sweetest and most caring ladies you will ever meet, and I am so glad to call her my friend. She produces some of the most incredible and beautiful characters for Poser that you have ever seen and has a talent for making them seem so realistic. Ute has cared for many family members over the years who have been ill and I believe she is as close to a saint as you will ever find. I know she would never ask you so I will to please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. This story Ute shared with me really hit home and in all honesty made me want to hug my nieces as I was writing it. This is for you my dear friend Ute,
Dave
Bedtime Stories (For Syltermermaid): Ute grew up in a small village by the North sea and at a young age had a desire to learn. When Ute would hear other kids talk about their Mom reading bedtime stories to them it made her envy them as her Mom never did that for her. One day without her Mom knowing Ute slipped into the library and began looking through the books. She came upon a book Hasenschule (School Of Rabbits) and took it to the front. The Librarian knew Ute, looked at her smiling and said. {Ute your are not in school yet, and can't read} With this Ute got upset and responded {I need this book because I want to learn) She could see how serious Ute was and let her take the book. Little Ute read the book and many more and was one of the few kids who could read before she started school. Later as she got older she saw Hasenschule in a little book shop one day and she bought that book and still has it to this day. To be honest this got to me so much to see a child so eager to learn and no one to teach her. If you have a little one and find your either too tired or too busy to read bedtime stories to them at night I hope you'll think back to little Ute and make time.

You know Dave, one of the things I like best about your work is how much of your heart you put into them. This is yet another great one my friend, and I positively agree with the message. All of our kids could read before they ever got to school...

I love to read, and always have as far back as I can remember. Course, back in my younger days reading was a little harder then it is today. Those stone tablets were pretty heavy, LOL! A dear and beautiful image for Ute! What drive she had to have learned to read that young, to have wanted to learn.

the story is beautiful and filled with the wonder of children discovering their powers on their own. And your realization of it is equally beautiful. You have, again, the purity of each person, each with their own gesture and expression, meeting in one place, interacting, communing...The librarian seems caught in a moment: It's just right—the hunch-over, the arm on the table for balance, her legs crossed gently; even the way Ute clasps something in her hand (I don't know what it is, sorry!). You do this so well, capturing the moment as if we just 'happened by'. Your shading in faces & limbs is always reflective, and the background hue is utterly a "library": dark, inviting and cloistered. You even frame the picture with lights across the top and the slightly skewed bookshelves to either side (your built in wide-angle lens!). Another beautiful rendering of a moment of poignance between people. And I send my deepest wishes to Ute for her love & her struggles. You've paid a beautiful tribute to her here.

What a wonderful story and another sweet image. I think it is so important to read to children. Books open up other worlds to our minds, hearts and imaginations. (Yes, I am a voracious reader). What a determined little girl Ute was.

Powerful message in this Dave!Parents sometimes get so busy that they forget important things like reading! Reading is essential to children, it takes them on journeys, sparks their imagination, gives them incentive to discover and learn. The childhood I had was rough as I told you and reading was my only escape sometimes. Now, although I am not a teacher, I have taught Ukrainian and Russians to speak/read English. I used handwritten words on index cards and taped them to everything from food to nature. In the process of teaching them, I learned a bit of their language as well...Yes at 62 years old I still love to read and learn:-) This is a wonderful image and dedi. If you don't...I think you should write children's books, all your images are very positive, something rare in todays world. Alex is a writer and did some children's books but more of a history and nature lesson. He is very good at his craft (does freelance for newspapers too and has had some of his things published) and I think you equal him in writing!

This is a wonderful story and image, Dave, and one very close to my heart. I don't remember if my parents read to me as a child, though I'm sure they did and probably my older sisters did too. I do know that our house was always filled with books, that I frequently saw my mother reading for pleasure, and reading was always a part of my life. My favorite book as a child was "Heidi" and one of my favorite chapters was the one where she taught Peter to read. (My favorite chapter was the one with the kittens, naturally) My children always got to pick a book for me to read them at bedtime and would spend time looking at them when they couldn't read them yet. My older son would 'read' some of the shorter ones with me sometimes. He didn't know how to read, but knew them by heart. Ute is amazing to have been so determined to learn to read, and to have done it. This is a great image with wonderful interaction between the librarian and Ute! Excellent poses and expressions. The librarian looks surprised, but supportive. Ute looks like she is holding the whole world in her hand. You have beautifully captured her excitement, determination and joy. Very nicely done!

Una grande immagine e una bella storia . Nei bimbi c'e' spesso questa volontà di sapere e , purtroppo , non sempre ,un aiuto soddisfacente da parte dei genitori che, a volte , non si rendono conto di questo ! A great image and a good story. In children there is' often this desire to know and, unfortunately, not always a satisfactory help from parents who sometimes do not realize that!
