Description

On this day in 1932 my town was blown to pieces when a train carrying 1,200tons of dynamite destined for the mines, exploded just outside of town. The explosion happened just beyond where the railway masts disappear into the trees. Read here...

I received so many good comments about my stay in the bush during the previous photo, that I hereby invite all of you to consider an African Safari. Want to contact me? LOL

Thank you for the comments and visits to my previous upload:

What a tragic story! And, what a beautiful photo Piet, to go along with it. Such a beautiful shot and the postwork is TOP NOTCH. Thank you for sharing this little bit of history of your town there in South Africa. You can bet I'd be calling you if I can scrape up enough nickles together to take a trip there for that Safari Adventure. God, What a dream! :)

Pictures from your land so well captured every time, for me your gallery is a tourist catalogue shows so many wonders what I wish I could see in real time. And I would like to watch a sunset with a lion roar as a background "music" it would be a fantastic experience. Thanks to share Piet.

Wow, what a sunset! Sure puts the one I posted yesterday to shame! You joke about the safari bits, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of us eventually take you up on it. The problem is, as I understand it, it takes basically 24 hours total to GET to South Africa from the USA. Still, one day.... It's now officially on my "Bucket List"...

This is such a frightening image. What was merely a fabulous sunset is now transformed into a huge ball of fire and destruction. Makes it seem like you were really there though I know you and I are WAY too young to fathom a day in 1932. lol Excellent work.
