Description

EMD – the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, one of several fabricators of diesel-electric locomotives still in existence today. For this railfan, the vintage diesels produced prior to 1980 have the most appeal. From a modeling standpoint, their simple, boxy carbodies make for some easy UV mapping and present a broad canvas for having some serious fun painting the various logos and livery styles. The EMD SD-40 in this depiction, a six axle, 3000 horsepower machine, here in Santa Fe livery, is one of my favorites. Many are still in use today. An EMD SW-1200, a 1200 horsepower, 4-axle switcher in BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) livery awaits its turn for servicing. As is my habit, I can never leave well enough alone, the stripe modding to the SD-40 demonstrating my frequent lack of discipline. Strict adherence to the actual livery is beyond me at this point. My apologies to any railfans who bristle at such alterations! All models are Wings3d or Bryce5 originals. Post work using PSP8. Thanks for lookin’.
