Description

Yesterday I thought I'd try a different vantage point of the town at sunrise and drove a couple of miles out to some fields before hiking on foot to the top of one with a pretty commanding view. Halfway up the resident cows came over to investigate, and whenever we got a little too close they charged nearby, I wasn't sure whether it was to run away from us or whether they were protecting their land by trying to 'shepherd' us in a different direction... On leaving, this particular cow broke free of the pack and started walking slowly straight towards us before stopping a few metres away and staring straight at us. I think the message was pretty clear, especially when he snorted and put his head down as you see here... I think it was basically a mutually respectful 'standoff' but I wasn't worried and in honesty far more interested in how I might compose a photo of the whole scene =) The title is reference to what this one seemed to be trying to do for his herd.. Enjoy your weekend! Adam (by the way it was looking 'diagonally' up the hill hence the appearance of a tilted horizon..)

Excellent photo, Adam! It reminds me of an early album by the Pink Floyd : 'Atom Heart Mother', if you've ever heard about it....I like the vivid colours of the grass and sky in the background, superbly rendered.

Not to worry, he was just checking you guys for tag but did not have so he can not make up which group you two belong to. Like a slight leaning of the field and a color of the grass is so lush with a tiny little white flowers. I enjoy your country series keep going Adam, good stuff.

Excellent capture! They seem so astute and aware of the existence of another presence.... The sky and the grass is most lovely, and what a geat, clear and sharp focus of the cow! Incredible composition!

I love the way cows come to investigate! I often used to lie down and let them come and sniff me; try it and you should get a superb bugs eye view.
