Description

AD Astra.... To the Stars! This is a rework of "Skin Study No. Nine" and owes its genesis to cobaltdream for the suggestion of checking the shaders out under a a different lighting scheme. Please see the earlier piece for production credits and details on the skin shaders. I tried taking "Skin Study No. Nine" and replacing the white ambient lighting with Dreamlight's "Basic Studio Light: Warm to Cool" and I liked the result enough to turn it into a more finished piece. I dropped the walls of the 'white room' to black and added a texture to the floor which is basically just a white blurred circle on black. Changed the clothes to some basic black materials and re-rendered. The stellar background was something I had done in photoshop a while back. I comped it in with the mask I had rendered earlier for "Skin Study No Nine" and just added a gradient to fade it out vertically. Amazing what a simple change in lighting can do, isn't it? Thanks, as always, for your comments and critique. --michael

Your changes have made the difference between a great shader and light study to a work of art, excellent render Michael.

I use Poser mainly because I don't know enough about Daz to get results like this, I will have to blow the dust off it and have another try :) Great work here.

Gosh... That is so cool what a few changes can make but still...the figures look great. Their skin textures matche the lighting and deeper shadows are heightened by the soft warmth of the skin. Excellent, Michael. Wonderful!

wow. the other was really good, but more of a test. this is a great work. you managed to totally change the mood and message by just changing the light and background. it's a very majestic yet touching image, now. it has something of the grand spirit of 50's and 60's sf illustrations, mixed a more modern equality and humility. definitely a perfect poster. if you haven't already, you should render it out in at least small poster resolution. the skin shader looks incredible here, too, especially accounting for the lights' color variance. if you're getting really picky about your skin shader, i do see a touch of the problem i've often encountered with D|S skin. her right arm goes a bit dead and grey at its edges and towards the bottom. i wish i knew the solution. but it's not very noticeable, and i'd bet no one else saw it. imho, it's odd, because everywhere else looks great, including her other arm and his arms.

Yup, this shader does hold up -^ I'll still continue to use pwSurface, but I would say that if I didn't have it yet, I would buy the new one ^^ The greying at edges is probably more due to the colored light from the right side. Although a bit of tweaking with the shader could fix that -_^
