Description

AloooooooHa! Morning finally breaks and the size of the Waikupuna plume is finally revealed in all her nastiness. This plume can be seen for many miles down the coast. Fortunately for those of us who live on the east side of the islands, we miss most of this vog as the normal trade winds blow it over to the west side of the island. But....every once in awhile the wind shifts for a couple days and we eat it badly on our side. This vog is quite nasty to breath in over long periods of time and is responsible for many respiratory problems among us islanders. You can still see the two gentlemen in the foreground snapping pics, it really gives you scale on how big this plume is. All night I kept thinking those two were completely nuts for getting so close to this plume. Tonight I will post a picture a little closer to the plume than I cared to be...I find I am as crazy as they are! As with all my posts, bigger is better. Thanks for dropping in and big Ma halo's to all who commented and favorited my last post....You guys rock! Aloha to all~

Wow. That really is BIG. And they really must be crazy to be so close!

So, if that lava splashed on them the size of a quarter, would it instantly burn through their clothes or do they have a second to brush it off before scarring?

No way Mike...if it lands on you don't scrape it off. You will do more damage that way, you must bite the bullet and let it burn in.

Well Dave, my friend, you have captured her plumage in all it's glory in this series with your usual eye for composition and technical skill to expose perfectly amazing images! This last one is my favorite too. I've really enjoyed this entire series! Between these and your beautiful wave shots I stand in awe of your talents.

"you must bite the bullet and let it burn in." What???? Let it burn in??? Just stand there and watch yourself burn? How the heck do you stop yourself from reflexively brushing it away?! I can't even wrap my head around that, lol. And what's a vog? I gotta go look that one up, lol. Anyway, another fascinating capture, Na'e. Like Akemi, I think this one is my favorite of the series. That plume is...just plain awesome. And seeing those two wee guys in this shot just makes it even harder to take in. My lord, this must be such an amazing sight to behold. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! -M :^)

Between the two flares at the bottom is an old sea captain with a beard and a hat with an anchor symbol... no, really... Awesome! I agree, your technical abilities are astounding~ =)
