Description

I lucked into this one, last weekend at Lake Michigan. There was a weird convergence of things that made this possible. The night before there'd been a light rain, which textured the sand with tiny craters, and also bonded the surface in a thin crust that seemed to stick together even after it had dried out. During the day the wind was fairly strong, so this tiny exposed root on the slope of a rather steep dune was swinging back and forth, making these odd arcs in the sand, while the rest of it was clumped just enough from the previous rain to contrast nicely. Most importantly, I had to step where I wouldn't cause the sand to cascade down and ruin this fascinating play of textures. I ruined several of these types of patterns before I even noticed them, alas! In this angle you can clearly see the root, as well as the arcs in the sand, which I really like. Thanks for taking a look!
