Description
From sunny Califonia to rainy Manchester, from the Velero Refinery to the back streets of Rochdale. This fire engine has sure put in some miles of travel.
Sunday 7th September 2008, Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Based at the Rochdale Fire Station, the Museum has gone from strength to strength since it opened its doors to the public. It is only a small museum and can only display a limited amount of vehicles. However it does have quite a large following and priveteley owned vehicles come along on open days to lend their support. The Museum only has three engines on permanent display, plus small pumps and other paraphernalia associated with fire fighting. I will post some of that over the next few days.
This fine engine has a bit of story to go with it. I was speaking to one of the museum curators(all ex firemen by the way), and he told me that this came about more or less by accident. One of the firemen was driving over Old Betts( a local road over the moors) to Blackburn; he just happened to glance over the fields towards a farm and this engine was what he saw. He decided to make some enquiries to see who owned it. It belongs to the farmer who likes to mess around with old vehicles to do restoration work etc. He bought it in a job lot but doesn't really want it, he had to take it as part of the deal. Now the Museum does not have the room nor the finance to aquire this engine to restore it as much as they would like to. The curator told me it was for sale if I was interested, the farmer only wants ĆĀ£40,000.00 ($70,565.90080 at todays exchange rate for it.
Way beyond both mine and their's budget allows. He did let them display it for the day though.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make, all are appreciated.

Very nice collage and what a unique story, would not expect to see this in Britain, and how much expense was involved transporting it across the pond! No wonder the price tag is so high!
