Description

I went to a park in Arlington Texas Friday and just after I entered a forested walk path, I was lucky to see a Giant Swallowtail fly right by me and land.it stayed long enough for me to get 20 shots The Giant Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio cresphontes) is a swallowtail butterfly common in various parts of North America, particularly the south and east. With a wingspan of about 10-16 cm , it is the largest butterfly in the United States. The adults' wings are black, with two striking yellow stripes across the forewings and hindwings. Giant Swallowtails feed on the nectar of a variety of flowers, but are known to enjoy azalea, bougainvilla, goldenrod, Japanese honeysuckle, and milkweed . thanks for viewing and any comments

I'm amazed that you have been able to click that shutter with such potentially dangerous weather looming so close to you Richard. Glad tp know you're alright. Stay safe! Steve :o)

Masterly macro, Richard. Very beautiful butterfly, and interesting information about it too. 16 cm. at max, is a pretty big fella. Amazing colours, a very cool shape of his wings..fantastic. Another little flying masterpiece, by mother nature.
