Description

I was not ready to capture this beautiful bird as I was seeking textures.I walked into a barn that was built in 1909 and heard something in the ceiling joists and looked up and there was a pair.they use the barn to nest in .they were of course afraid and I got too close they started jumping joists.each time the noise would be quite loud because of their weight.both ended up flying the coup. the following time I went back, they were soaring high in the sky over the same area they are protected by the government.that is a scary thought! thanks for viewing and any comments

We have a ton of them in town..they clean up all our squirrels. They also like to bake themselves in front of the cell tower in winter--I can just imagine that they are going to microwave themselves but somehow they manage. They also sit on the eaves of a local Gothic mansion. I think the owner must pay them to do that;-)

A really lovely capture. What a nice find this was! Wonderful POV and lighting. This bird looks almost pretty - with that glint to his eye and the cute way he's perched. (I'm assuming this is a he. it could be a she. Hard to tell!) Excellent photo!

Holy cow ((holy BIRD??lol what a great find richard I went to do some research they have a whole lot of information out there on these birdss very interesting indeed, I was hoping I could get the links on here but as you see below won't copy live: but I listened to the sounds it's a bit scary indeed they also said they make barking sounds, did it make a sound when u took the picture I wonder?? Sound Usually silent. Can make soft hisses and barks. »listen to songs of this species Other Names Urubu noir (French) Zopilote común (Spanish) Cool Facts One-on-one, a Black Vulture can be dominated by the slightly larger Turkey Vulture. But, Black Vultures rarely travel alone. Flocks of Black Vultures can quickly take over a carcass and drive the more solitary Turkey Vultures away. Sources used to construct this page:

I am so familiar with the turkey vulture but not so much this black one. Still, it has the regal and preditory look I expect. Seems you really came on a fabulous opportunity and used it very well!

Wonderful shot Richard. Beautiful black cadaver eater. This is the first time i see a black Vulture. And i like the story about them jumping and being noisy. Just protecting their nest and kids i guess. So the government protect them...hmmm.. hope they do a better job with the vulture couple...then they do with the protection of the world.
