Description
I was not ready to capture this beautiful bird as I was seeking textures.I walked into a barn that was built in 1909 and heard something in the ceiling joists and looked up and there was a pair.they use the barn to nest in .they were of course afraid and I got too close they started jumping joists.each time the noise would be quite loud because of their weight.both ended up flying the coup. the following time I went back, they were soaring high in the sky over the same area
they are protected by the government.that is a scary thought!

Sure would not expect to see one of these in a barn! They are actually quite beneficial... If they eat an animal with rabies, that stops it right there, the disease goes no further, and they prevent the spread of other diseases by eating carrion, so it's a good thing that they are protected. Nice shot, Richard.

Great capture and at least if they are protected there can't be many of them, but they do look to be pretty large.

Awesome capture! We have Turkey Vultures here. I have no idea why they are called that, or even if it's just a local name for them.
