Description

Mornin' All *S* Here's some info about today's post for those who are interested : Danse Macabre (French), Danza Macabra (Italian) or Totentanz (German), is a late-medieval allegory on the universality of death: no matter one's station in life, the dance of death unites all. La Danse Macabre consists of the personified death leading a row of dancing figures from all walks of life to the grave—typically with an emperor, king, youngster, beautiful girl, all skeletal. They were produced to remind people of how fragile their lives were and how vain the glories of earthly life were. According to the ancient superstition, "Death" appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death has the power to call forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle. His skeletons dance for him until the first break of dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year. Camille Saint-Saens (1835 - 1921) who is more well known for his "Carnival of Animals," also wrote a "Danse Macabre" piece, and as in his "Carnival" used a xylophone to symbolize the rattling of bones. Well, hope you enjoy my little version...sorry, no skeletons :o) ...y'all have a good one ! ~ Love & Hugs ~ * Mina * Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Credits: www.mjranum.deviantart.com www.annikavonholdt.com

Even without skeletons, you've captured the feeling of the Dance quite eloquently. The pose, the mood of the piece, creates a wonderful sense of the reluctance to let go. I love the ghostly feet with the butterfly ... there's so much here ... Beautiful work!

What a MistressPiece, Sugar Plum. Amazing composition. It sure has the touch of a death dance. Fantastic articulation(even if i can hear her) and gesticulation. The mood and atmosphere really suits the composition. French without tears it is.....very interesting historic facts too. Spooky piece, for above the couch. Masterly accomplished.

You have illustrated the Danse Macabre beautifully and brought to light that where ever we stand in the pecking order of life, we are all equal with death. Excellent and beautiful.
