I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

I can see a bit of water there Carin but you need some more, I have tried and tried to divert some of our excess but it just won't work for me. Hope you get what you need soon, no more and no less. Excellent capture, a wonderful vista, I wouldn't mind being right there, right now. Bravo!!!!!

It's a beautiful Country, but so dry and desolate looking. But I know it is a country with heart and soul and you have captured it perfectly.

Awesome view Carin. There is some stunning scenic views there as i saw on my first visit.Wouldn't mind to be back there again.i wonder if they had rain there now.We had storms the last 3 days already. So maybe they had some rain there as well.May they also have more rain there so that everything can be green again.Excellent capture Carin.

Excellent capture Carin and a good choice of title:)

So dry like much of Australia, just waiting for the rain. This would make a nice pair with a shot from the same spot when it is green and full of animals.

Stellar mood and ambiance in this portrait of the veldt, Carin. "Out of Africa," the 1985 film starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.

I see this image and I think of three similar images: one of Olduvai Gorge, where the most ancient of "human" footprints are embedded in fossilized volcanic ash. The other two remembered images are from movies: The Gods Must Be Crazy a loopy masterpiece and an under-appreciated classic, and 2001: A Space Odyssey the high water mark of cinematic science fiction...never mind that South American tapirs were seen in the African sahel. This image reminds me of those others--minus the tapirs, and an alien monolith like one of God's own stereo speakers...and the comparison, I think is well deserved, since your image and its accompanying text evokes a timelessness that the entire African continent possesses. How fortunate you are to be there, to see what is so central a part of human existence...and how lucky I am to have caught a glimpse of it in this image.

An interesting capture of Africa. It is such a place of contrast both lushness and barren. Sadly some of the greatest sources of water are currently in danger there of being lost as changes are occuring at an increasing rate.
