Description

Had to go back and check what number I was up to in this series.. has been a while! I guess along with yesterday's upload I'll consider today's post as a kind of marker for the start of another new semester in town - my last as a student. I haven't yet taken any pics in town this year, and in fact this shot comes from the same misty night as After Hours III & IV. Here you see North Street in the mist by night. On the right is the quad's clock tower, and you can just make out part of the adjoining chapel. The entrance to the quad is through the arch just before the tower, and down the first alley you can just make out on the right is where I took After Hours II from, down a little alley called Butts Wynd. Many of the university's administrative buildings lie along this street as well as the library, cinema, police station, and a few academic departments. But not really any bars until you get rriiiight down the far end, nearer the golf courses - thus it's comparatively deserted at night... especially around the sort of time I shot this - about 3am if my memory serves! In an ideal world there wouldn't have been any cars but I guess you can't have it all and the mist was enough for me really, plus I'm not yet proficient enough in photoshop for me 'disappearing' them without trace not to take hours.. Technical stuff - 7 exposure hdr generated from 3 bracketed RAW files, tonemapped in Photomatix. B&W conversion and all necessary adjustments in CS2 plus a couple of VirtualPhotographer filters at reduced opacity. Am coming to find hdr very interesting for night shots.. Anyway hope you like it and have a great evening! Adam
