Description

After days of weather related delays, the skies over Cape Canaveral finally cleared. On July 21, 1961 7:20 EST the 1st American in space, Alan Shepard, called the countdown for the 2nd American manned space flight. The Mercury Redstone "Liberty Bell 7" Piloted by Virgil "Gus" Grissom. During the boost phase of the flight Grissom withstood an acceleration force greater than 11 times that of gravity. 2 minutes, 23 seconds after lift off, at the edge of space, the Redstone's emergency escape tower was jettisoned. More to come in this series soon. Modeled, textured and rendered in 3DS Max. Custom textures created in Corel. Thanks for viewing!
