Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Interesting shot Marilyn, some great colour and texture, I like the title. Can't wait to see the RIGHT tree!

It is suprising what you see when you take up photography as a serious hobby, your whole attitude to life changes and you see things in a totally different light. Like you say, you have walked past here countless times and never really noticed what was there. Little things we take for granted suddenly spring out on us and we then want to share with others of a similar ilk. Some like me get it a little late in life and we suddenly realise we have been missing out big time. So glad you noticed this, the trunk with the peeling bark is very interesting indeed, a very nice warm image. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

Surprises among the familiar is like Rembrandt red that appears only after you've have given up on the picture.

these trees have such a wonderful smell on warm, sunny days. Although, out by the coast there is a forest of them that smells so powerful it will empty your stomach if you spend much time in it. :-) Wonderful golden sunlight on the bark.

I see red everywhere, is it in the upper right? I often change my commute to work just so I can see something realitively New, but it is always a very pleasant surprise to see something new along the old beaten path!!!

Love the red streak bark effects -- which make the trunk and limbs look wounded and bleeding -- and background foliage in this capture, M! Eucalyptus trees are de rigueur around my condo complex. But I hate when they drip gooey black sap on the parked cars and ground.
MrsRatbag
The playground at my primary school was surrounded by eucalyptus trees, so the smell of them always takes me back to my distant past; I love that you can see the acorns (?is that what they're called?) hanging on this one. When I took the San Francisco tour they said that the eucalyptus wasn't native, but was imported by someone; and that they accidentally imported the wrong type. I don't know if that goes for all the ones that are spread all over California or just SF...anyways, this is a great shot, I've always love the streaky bark!

That bark is fascinating! We don't have those up here, as I'm sure you've noticed. :)

It's kind of like life, we search and we search for something we've wanted or needed in our lives for so long only to discover it was there under our noses the whole time....Excellent capture!
