Description
I used the extracted portion of Edouard Manet's 'The Balcony' as a reference to learn the oil technique of wet-on-wet painting and also the impressionist's technique of mixing colours on the canvas. zoom in to see the wet-on-wet brush strokes. This is a fast and expressive method of painting, much less technical than the glaze method (previous Rembrandt posting). When mixing colours on the canvas take care not to add more than three colours and white in any one place or the hues loose their freshness and tend toward mud.
The woman is, the painter, Berthe Morisot and, if i remember correctly, was Manet's sister-in-law.
My wife, Rose, loved this painting, so i gave it to her as a gift.

Well done, you're wife has good taste! In particular I like the thick brush work on hair and background, and the slight tints in the dress.
