Description

Hello, here I´m...back and alive! This pic here continues the last others, it is the same place, so I count it as number 3 in a row.... I was a little bit afraid to do a new long story with a lot of words, and this declares the long distance between this and the last pic, sorry..... This pic here (and the two last, too) shows a very special place in Germany and one of the greatest tourism magnets in Saxonia: It is the saxonian fortress Koenigstein ("King`s Stone") near the german - sczech frontline. This fortress has seen many mighty persons as Napoleon Bonaparte, Szar Peter The Great, the preussian kings Friedrich The Great and his father Friedrich Wilhelm, medevial kings and emperors..... It was fortress, jailhouse, treasure house and was never dominated by enemies..... Why here? Because Mother Nature created here a fine natural watchtower in shape of a table mount high above the river Elbe, which comes from Sczechia and crosses Germany till Hamburg at the Northern Sea. And so this place has a long story, beginning in the early medevial: On top of this place was situated an early castle, the owner was a german earl named "Gebhard vom Stein" (Gebhard of the Stone). This was in 1233. The castle`s owner was a german, but this country was part of Bohemia, reigned by the bohemian king Wenzel I. The medevial mighty and famous of Germany and Bohemia met here in this old castle and discussed the frontlines between the three slav districts of Milska, Nisani and Dacena, today the frontline between Germany and Sczechia. at this place here King Wenzel I. sat his personal signet under the paper, and that gave the place its name: "The Kings`Stone" (to be continued) Picture shows the river Elbe above, the small village of Koenigstein and the walls of the saxonian fortress above. Done with my Nikon Coolpix in October 2008. I hope you enjoy this pic. Feel free to look in, give comments in both directions...Thanks and goodbye till tomorrow.. billcody, Berlin

Fascinating Picture and what a commanding view! Timely I have been reading a bit about Napoleon nephew Napoleon III Emperor of France and Bismark. It is 1865 and the war is about to begin between Prussia and Austria.

Well worth the extra click to go full size on this one Wolfgang, and outstanding capture and a spectacular view. A very commanding place atop this bedrock, I do not envy the builders of this fine fortress, having to work on the very edge like this. Even rock can crumble though and looking at this image I can see a couple of cracks in the base rock itself. Superb capture, and a very interesting narrative, I look forward to the continued story. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
